MacBook Pro Woes (Updated 7 times)

Two days ago a vertical white line appeared on the LCD screen of my MacBook Pro. It would flicker in and out at first then it became a solid white thin line plaguing the left side of my screen. I connected another monitor to see if the problem was duplicated on the other monitor, but my suspicions were correct I have an LCD malfunction. I purchased this computer in November 2007 and new Macs have a one year warranty. The tech on the phone took down my information and will send me a box to ship my Mac to the company for repairs. Now being I am a new Mac user, this will test the quality of Mac support for their products. I will update this post on the progress and result of the repairs.

Isn’t that just beautiful?

Update: March 24, 2007- Well the tech said the box to ship my MBP in would arrive on Wednesday, but it came today. Thats two days before schedule.

Update: March 25, 2008- The MBP is all packed up and ready for pickup by DHL. Apple sent the box with packing instructions and sufficient packing material to protect the notebook on its journey. Also included was a complete rundown of Apple’s warranty and servicing guidelines.

Update: March 26, 2008- I checked the status of the repairs on my MacBook Pro today via Apple’s support page. The MBP had arrived at the service facility and the part for it is on order. It didn’t state what the part was, but I would say it was LCD related. So, I shipped it yesterday, it arrived today and has been troubleshooted by a technician. So far Apple seems to have a great service department.

Update: April 1, 2008- MacBook Pro Repair Status: still on hold and awaiting ordered part.

Update: April 3, 2008- The MacBook Pro is repaired and on its way back. If they shipped it express, I should have it back by tomorrow afternoon.

Update: April 7, 2008- The Macbook Pro was put on hold by DHL for reason unknown because it does not list it on the tracking webpage. As of now 3:09pm CT in lists it with delivery courier.

Final Update: April 7, 2008- The MacBook Pro was delivered this afternoon. The part that was replaced was the LCD, which I had predicted. It took a total of ten business days to get it shipped to the repair center, have it repaired and shipped back. The tech on the phone said it would be back within a week but, since they had to order the part ten days is quick for a mail in repair. Apple was quick to respond and made good on the warranty repair as I am typing this on the MBP. On a personal note: Apple did not give me any grief on the phone about the repair as some companies have in the past. Apple stands behind their products and I am one happy customer.
